About

About this blog:

Awful Rigours and Wretched Pay was a newspaper quote used to describe the lot of Music Hall performers in Victorian London. Mlle Elena Estelle disagreed vociferously. Her determination to excel as a dancer carried her away from poverty and depravity to a comfortable existence. In this blog, I will present Elena’s story, and those of my other ancestors, together with a miscellany of thoughts and reflections, travels and travails, for your delight and delectation.

A new post will appear every Friday to brighten your weekend.
